The Difference We Can Make! October 3, 2020 – Posted in: Blog, Books, Inspiration, Thoughts – Tags: Family, Friends
For decades we have been told that being different is ok. Whether it be the colour of your skin, the country you come from, the god you pray to, or even the language you speak, these differences have caused wars and death over many years. Yet we all know that deep down we are human, we are the same and regardless of those differences we all add something unique to the world by our presence even if it is simply our opinion.
In fact, the differences within us is what makes us human. No other animal on the planet is as diverse across its whole species. The most interesting thing is that if we were not different and didn’t think differently we would still be living in caves and hunting for our food.
Over the ages the printed word has changed us. Books have launched revolutions, wars and religions. Until the last millennia most of our news was in print form. Even as far back as ancient Rome we can see parchments and letters that changed history. There are many books that have brought tragedy to life over the past but there are many that have changed the world for the better. Probably one of the most influential children’s books have been Dr Seuss and the lyrical rhymes used to tell moralistic points of view in a funny sometimes silly way and yet get the message across. Some children’s books have been made into movies such as Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping beauty, Beauty and the beast and many more. All these stories have a message embedded into the tale for the reader or watcher to glean and learn.
This is one of the reasons Niki and I started to write books. We wanted to add to the many messages that are printed out there. We looked for something different and in fact wrote a book about being different. With the world being changed dramatically over the past 6 months and more to come it is important we don’t let our children lose sight of where we came from and how, no matter how different we are that we are the same. The book is called “We’re All Different & That’s Ok!. Please have a look at a copy and teach your child that the differences in our lives are not what matters, it is what we learn from those differences that will shape their world in years to come.
