Why Reading To Your Children Matters August 3, 2019 – Posted in: Blog

There are a number of benefits to both participants in reading to your children from a young age.

  1. One of the main things is the building of trust and companionship for your child.
  2. They get to see the world through your eyes and make their own impressions.
  3. They learn vocabulary when words unfamiliar to them pop up.
  4. You gain a sense of closeness and become familiar with the way they think.
  5. You can create a sense of wonder and delight especially if going to bed.
  6. The stories you read to them will stay with them longer than any other memory.
  7. They will gain confidence in understanding the world around them.
  8. They will learn to associate things with their names.
  9. Starting early creates a need to read more which can stay with them their whole lives.
  10. It can keep them entertained in those quiet moments.

Of course, there are many benefits to them learning early so when they start school they have the ability to at least take in the knowledge better.  I worked long and often varied hours in the day and night so it was a special moment for me to get to read to my children at night.  They can still remember their favorite stories and some of the times we had as I acted out the various characters.  I have extended this very special time to my grandchildren and they too have enjoyed the stories I once read to their parent.  I urge you to continue to read and I hope our books offer you differing subjects and styles that you can utilise to teach differing lessons to your children.
